[Look, it was one thing to see Korra do it. She was the AVATAR, and Luz could see that Korra had several more years of experience, not to mention some emotional scars she didn't deserve for someone her age. Toph was a kid a little younger than her and Luz could already see how masterful she was of her element. If people thought being blind was going to slow her down, they clearly had the wrong impression of how strong Toph truly was].

Oh, yes! It's coming slow though, but I can see I'm getting back to where I was back on the Isles. I just have to start practicing to her myself back to where I was.

[How could they not be? With all that power and a tempered way of using it, Luz had nothing but admiration for how they used their strength].

[Luz placed a glyph on the floor and tapped it, right near Toph. The ground beneath Toph would immediately become slick and solid, as it was becoming ice. That was pretty startling, but Luz wasn't about to be TOO mean- she skated right behind Toph, making sure to catchy her if she fell.

Luz was THAT fast.

[ That's not something she's experienced before. It wasn't like the sweeping motion of bending, and there wasn't any water around. Her arms immediately lifted, blinking wider and crouching to try and keep her balance.

Bare feet, cold! ]

How'd that even work- You turned the ROCK?

[ She staggers for a bit, losing her sense of where Luz was aside from the sound. She hasn't fallen yet!

But she also hasn't tried to move much yet. ]

Surprising, right?!

[Luz was still taking it slow, smiling at how sleek the ice look. She remembered when she'd get jagged pieces most of the time, and now it came as solid or chunked as she liked. That had taken some time]!

I use glyphs, which are just symbols, to shape the elements around me. I know in your world, it's water, fire, earth and air. In the Isles, it's plants, ice, fire and light. And when you're able to get those down, you can combine the glyphs to do other things too!

Uh, sorry for surprising you though.

Magic's kindof weird...

[ Says the girl that can twist earth and metal around like silly putty. It's weird to her though.

Toph tries to shift, moving sliiightly forward, only to have bare feet slide along faintly melting ice beneath her skin and zipping her foot forward with a WHOOP! She lets out a startled out, arms flail, and then falls back into Luz without much more warning than that. ]

WH-! Had to be ice...

That it is. It is very, very weird. Wish I understood it more myself.

[Luz was still figuring it out, and figured that Toph could relate there, since she figured no one ;likely earthbended like Toph did.

Luz, of course, DID catch her friend, specifically because she had anticipated that this might happen].

Heh, yeah, sorry! I'm kinda used to being careful not to slip! Also, I can use magic to make makeshift ice skates anyway.

Yeah. I'm uh... Not a big fan of ice. Or water. A buncha stuff I can't feel anything on, no thanks.

[ Her arms tense, trying to pull herself up and just slipping again. Her feet really get no traction, and it's kinda cold. ]

That was cool but... Can we go back to land now?

Oh. Right, of course! We'll leave the ice part alone.

[With that, Luz grabbed her staff and whisked the ice off, and now it was just plain water, gooshy but not with the added danger of slipping on its surface].

That was my fault, sorry! Obviously ice is not going to be fun if you can't see it. It's kind of a tricky surface that way. Slippery, and dangerous if you don't know when it's going to break apart into, water."

[ She dusts herself off, straightening up once she's back on her feet again and can at least settle into now slightly muddy ground. ]

It's not really that.

I can't earthbend on things that aren't earth. So then I can't feel what's around me either, it's like turning the lights off or something, for you.

[Luz put her hands to her mouth. How did she forget that]!?

Oh man, I'm so sorry! I didn't even think of that! Ice is like throwing a blanket all over how you 'see!'

[ One more puff to blow the air from her face, then she makes a dramatic sigh. ]

Ah, to think my own friend's forgotten~~ [ Laying the teasing tone on thick. ] You'll have to make up for this somehow-

With some ice cream. Now that kind of ice I'm fine with.

[ She doesn't actually expect Luz to do anything for her, but it is a good way to nudge them into doing something other than standing around. ]

[Granted, she couldn't MAKE actual ice cream. That took milk and sugar, components Luz did not know how to recreate with glyphs. But she could make a mean snow cone, and did so now, handing it over to Toph].

Oh! It was the worst! I think I nearly burned my feet almost every day!

I'm not talking regular summer hot, it was like an oven!

[ Of course, there were also dragons, which was probably way more interesting, but Toph didn't really get involved in that. ]

Ugh, sounds bad. I'd have suggested wearing shoes, but that would be impossible for you, wouldn't it?

I think that would have gotten to me. There's a place in my world called "Death Valley" where it gets that hot. Sounds awful.

I can wear shoes, but it makes everything all blurry, I can't feel very far either. So not great.

Death Valley is such a COOL NAME though!? Why was it called that?
Was it full of maneating beartigers or something?
